B B P What You need to know about the stock Market!
BBP …. Though you might think that it stands for bestest buddies and pals , it doesn’t. Uhm, not quite…it actually means Bulls,Bears,and Pigs, and no! not the kind you find on a farm. These are what you find in the stock market. I know what you’re thinking animals in the stock market, now that’s crazy , but it’s true . Of course these are not real animals they are just terms that are used to describe the stock market conditions and the characteristics of the different types investors in the stock market. Let me explain it to you.
A Whole Lotta Bull…
Let’s start with the Bulls, nope not the ones from Chicago, the Bull Market. A Bull Market is when everything is just ever so peachy and wonderful, “it’s All Good!”. In other words stocks are up , the price of gas is low ,and there is actually meat inside my subway sandwich. You know , miracle stuff. So a Bull Market is one where investors are usually confident and motivated to buy stocks in the hopes that they will have a much greater value in the future. If someone in the stock market is called a ” BULL” or is said to have a “BULLISH OUTLOOK” it just means, that type investor is always looking on the bright side of things and believing that their stocks are going to rise even when they are low.
Even though this Bull stuff sounds all nice it does have it’s downside. The simple fact is that a Bull Market cannot and will not last forever. Stocks can also become overpriced during this time. Bulls or investors with a Bullish Outlook are often referred to as a herd (I hope that’s a metaphor.) I’m guessing that because the Bull Market is driven by the motivation and confidence of the investors…it is similiar to the running of those Bulls in Spain…which kind of explains the term a Bull Run.
